Ministry Visit to Malawi – August 2025
In August, Piet, Dekseltjie, and Dirk visited Malawi as part of the “Making Disciples like Jesus” series, aimed at equipping local leaders with practical disciple-making tools based on Matthew’s Gospel. The series aims to equip local leaders with practical tools for disciple-making, following the teachings found in the gospel of Matthew. This time, Dirk joined them to help create an even greater impact. Brother Macdonald Nkhoma took responsibility for local arrangements and mobilisation.

In the mornings, facilitators Piet and Dekseltjie led discussions with around 20 leaders from Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania, unpacking Matthew 8–13 from the perspective of a disciple. Together, they explored how to practically apply Jesus’ teachings in their own contexts in ways that reflect Christ’s compassion on people in need. Theory had to be put into practise, so the group went into the streets of Lilongwe in pairs for talking to people about the reality of the Kingdom of God in their lives. They came back with joy and many stories of how positive they have been received.

Matthew 11 to 12 focused on Jesus, who he is, and how different groups of people had different opinions and expectations if Him, concluding with the invitation from Jesus himself to take up His yoke which is easy and light by following him as disciple.
Matthew thirteen highlighted kingdom dynamics that help us to think about how the Lord Himself works in our communities and how we fit into what He is doing already.

During the late afternoons Dirk focused on the principles of New Testament church life, attended by about 80 disciples from Lilongwe, with the topics:
- Rethinking Church
- Upside-down Leadership
- System Upgrade Church
When the group discussion started, the sound of so many people speaking passionately about how church life could be sounded like a jet engine starting up. They were on fire and asked for a follow-up meeting with brother Macdonald on the Monday evening – which already happened!
We look forward to seeing the ongoing results of their close walk with Jesus.
Regards,
